Computer Science

Computer Science in Wheat Ridge High School

Computer Science is one of today’s most exciting fields. Advances in generative AI, augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) ensure that things will become more fun and interesting in the years to come.

Wheat Ridge offers a comprehensive computer science pathway that includes foundations, AP and advanced AR-VR Unity courses.

Students can learn JavaScript, C#, Python, Photoshop and Unity, all while using a lab of high-end desktop computers (i7 processors with 32GB of RAM and RTX 4060 TI graphics cards).

The program has Quest 3 and Apple Reality Pro headsets in addition to an Artec Leo Structured Light scanner, all of which further our ability to bridge the gap between the physical and virtual worlds.

Computer Science in Jeffco

Computer science is the study of computers and computational systems. Computer science examines how computers work, including software, hardware and algorithms. It is an umbrella term that covers everything from artificial intelligence and data science to robotics, game development, cybersecurity and more. Computer science is at the heart of people's daily lives and the digital economy, and it permeates every industry.

A few of the topics and activities that might be included in a computer science course include:

  • Algorithmic problem-solving
  • Computing and data analysis (managing, processing, visualizing and interpreting data)
  • Human-computer interaction
  • Modeling and simulating real-world problems
  • Creating and manipulating graphics
  • Programming (including game design)
  • Cybersecurity (including cryptography)
  • Web design (illustrating principles of programming, human-computer interaction and abstraction)
  • Robotics (designing and programming)
  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning
  • Ethical and social issues in computing
